Union Complains About Overtime Hours

Dispatchers at the Puyallup (Wash.) comm center are working three times as many overtime hours now as they did back in March, or a total of 309 hours for the latest 2-week period for the 14 dispatchers. Dispatchers’ union president Dorene Strange complained to the city council last month, saying dispatchers took over dispatching for the city of Bonney Lake, increasing their workload and creating stress. Strange said morale at the center was very bad because dispatchers don’t see immediate relief for working five to six days a week, 12 hours per day. City manager Gary McLean said three new dispatchers have been hired and he is working to hire two additional positions. Read more about the staffing situation here.
