Former dispatcher and San Francisco emergency communications manager Rex Martin has filed papers to run for a seat on the Oceanside (NC) city council. Martin retired to the city last year and is one of seven candidates for two seats on the council. He started as a Michigan dispatcher, moved to the Lubbock (Tex.) comm center and then took the San Francisco job. He left in 2005 and spent two year’s as Washington’s (DC) emergency services director. He also has previous political experience as a city commissioner and mayor of Birmingham (Mich.).
