Man Shot By Police Was Holding BB Gun

A Cary (NC) woman dialed 911 when her intoxicated fiancé threatened to kill himself, but officers who arrived may have believed the BB gun he held was real, and shot the man. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition. The man’s father said the victim suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder. A team of 8 officers, including those trained in crisis intervention, reportedly talked to the man for 20 minutes, but at one point he picked up the BB gun and approached the officers, resulting in the shooting.
