Nation’s Financial Crisis Strikes City

The first local jurisdiction to feel the effects of the national credit crisis is taking out its budget frustrations by trying to renegotiate its contract with the county for dispatching services. The town of Halley (Idaho) says using a per-call method is unfair, and a proposed rate increase from $22.50 to $48.65 is unacceptable. The town’s finances have been constrained by the recent real estate downturn and the Wall Street defaults.
