Two brothers who crashed their car off Interstate 70 west of downtown Kansas City (Kan.) ended up in a ditch with only a cellular phone to call for help. Sadly, the driver was killed in the accident, leaving his brother to dial the phone–but the 71 year-old brother is blind and had only a general idea of where he was. The man’s 911 call went to the Johnson County sheriff’s comm center, where dispatchers sent deputies to find the car using the time-test “siren” technique. It took about 13 minutes for deputies to arrive and rescue the man. The comm center has Phase 2 capabilities, but apparently the men’s phone wasn’t GPS-equipped.
