The recovery from Hurricane Ike continues to drag, as workers try to restore electric, water and sewer services, and to clear streets of debris. Many cities still are not allowing residents to return until essential services are restored. In Corpus Christi, an electrical fire last Monday forced employees to relocated to other locations, including the comm center’s dispatchers. But a power surge last Wednesday killed the server that dispatchers were using to handle incidents, leaving them to manually dispatch for much of the day. Dispatchers moved back into the police building on Thursday where new and repaired equipment was working again. And that just their workplace. Dispatchers must still contend with their families being displaced and their residences being damaged by the hurricane. Read more about their situation here.
