A pair of Westchester Couny (NY) dispatchers was honored during ceremonies this week for their handling of a 911 call from a woman who had fled to her bathroom when the house caught fire. As the fire continued to grow, Monique Holowach and David Berry dispatched fire units to the house in Cortlandt, and kept her on the line to give her advice. The woman was near panic, but on the dispatchers’ instructions, stuck towels beneath the door to slow the spread of smoke, and then relayed her location to firefighters. Within minutes the line went dead, but then the dispatchers received word on the radio that the woman had been rescued. Read more and see a photo here.
