Odd Choice for Center Dedication

During a Sept. 11th ceremony, the Tredyffrin Township (Chester County, Penn.) police department has dedicated its comm center to former chief Thomas Baynard, saying that his legacy is the department’s current professionalism. Without mentioning any connection between Baynard and the comm center or its operation, township officials praised the former chief, who served from 1976 to 1992. Baynard did hire the department’s first female officer and encouraged officers to obtain higher education credentials. The dedication came during a annual luncheon paid for by brokerage company Smith Barney. A news story concludes, “Although the radio room was rededicated, it was not revamped. The plaque on the wall, however, will now indicate that the room is dedicated to Baynard.”
