Rains, Flooding Force Dispatchers to Evacuate

Heavy rains have caused extensive flooding in the midwest states, including the Chicago area, where Franklin Park’s 30 dispatchers had to leave the NORCOMM center when rising waters from Silver Creek flooded the building, and also required the rescue of at least 50 citizens. The center handles dispatching for two law enforcement agencies and 7 fire departments, and immediately dispersed dispatchers to other agencies to continue handling telephone calls and radio traffic. The city is northwest of Chicago, where at least four persons died in storm-related incidents. View a FEMA flood map for NORCOMM, and create your own flood plain map here.
