911 CARES Sounds Hurricane Alert

The 911 CARES program has issued an alert for dispatchers affected by Hurricane Ike that rolled in from the Gulf of Mexico and across Texas. The program is networking with NENA and the Texas TERT, and all have identified the cities of Galveston, Orange and Beaumont as needing assistance. The dispatchers there have been working long hours and “running out of fresh clothes and daily needs. We are only beginning to see what the losses are for these many 9-1-1 heroes since most have been working for days and have been unable to check their homes.” The 911 CARES program has crafted a specific program assistance based on the dispatchers’ needs and the local conditions. Check their Web site for an exact list of items needed, specifically how and where to send them and other information.
