A man who was seriously burned while lighting a trash fire dialed 911 for help, but for some reason his call ended up on an open line that was not immediately answered at the Columbia County (Fla.) comm center. Oddly, the man said he could hear a dispatcher’s voice in the background as he was driving himself to the hospital, and he could also hear his wife’s voice on a separate 911 call. The man yelled through the phone to get a dispatcher’s attention, but without success. The connection was eventually lost, and a dispatcher called him back, but he arrived at the hospital shortly after. Comm center officials have not been able to explain how the mis-communications occurred. Read a story about the man’s incident here.
