Small Town vs. County Over Funding

The problems of funding a public safety comm center aren’t limited to big cities and big budgets. Officials in the small town of Hailey (Idaho, pop. 6,083) are upset over how Blaine County proposes to fund a newly-consolidated center for 2009, saying they’ve been singled out and that city representatives didn’t attend budget meetings. The city was expected to pay $258,000 next year, but “heated negotiations” reduced that figure, but only if a ballot initiative passes to raise funding from other sources.
