After Incident, Center Director Resigns

Dane County (Wisc.) officials have announced the resignation of public safety comm center director Joe Norwick, five months after an incident where a 911 call from the apartment of a murder victim was not investigated. County executive Kathleen Falk issued a press release that praised Norwick for improvements at the center, including a new $30 million facility. She said Falk spent 30 years with the Dane County sheriff’s department, had retired and then returned in June 2007 to become comm center director. “I think its just a high stress job and he thought he’d go back to retirement and go to his cottage up north,” explained Falk. Someone from Zimmermann’s apartment dialed 911, but no officers were dispatched to investigate. She was found murdered hours later.
