Stolen Radios Lead to Prank Transmissions

Dallas (Tex.) police dispatchers began receiving false radio transmissions last week, apparently from a set of Fire-Rescue radios that had been stolen earlier from two fire stations and an ambulance. A spokesperson said the transmissions were pretty obvious, and were an annoyance more than anything. Police said the transmissions included “Code red, code red.” Police switched to another radio channel for northeast patrol units after a roll-call. The Dallas police and fire departments use a conventional, repeated radio system in the 460 MHz band, and fire radios are programmed with some police channels.
