New York state officials have postponed a round of testing for the public safety radio system installed at Erie and Chautauqua Counties, saying that several key problems remain unsolved by the vendor, M/A-COMM. The state is facing an August 29th deadline to decide if tests in the two counties have been successful enough to roll out the system statewide. Preliminary testing found several problems, but both state and M/A-COMM officials have said the glitches were not critical. There has been criticism that the M/A-COMM technology isn’t ready for a critical system, and several counties say they couldn’t afford a radio upgrade even if the radio system were successfully installed.
