A murder victim in Wells (Vt.) dialed 911 for help from her cellular phone, but dispatchers who tried to trace the call had trouble reaching a cellular carrier via a fax machine. The woman’s 3:47 a.m. call only had Phase I information–her telephone number and the receiving tower information. Dispatchers tried finding the address using Google and other law enforcement agencies. They then called Verizon to obtain the woman’s subscriber information, but the company said they needed the dispatchers to fax a request form. When they tried to send the fax, the number was busy.
