The number of agencies and jurisdictions considering a merger or consolidation is growing every day. Some want to combine law enforcement, fire and EMS dispatching operations, other proposals cover consolidating several cities and towns into a single center. The obstacles frequently aren’t technical, but political. So how do you propose a merger to your local politicians? That question has been raised by dispatch supervisor Jayson Wickard in Fostoria (Ohio). Their police operate a one-person comm center with lots of activity, and budgeting for two dispatchers is limited.
