Dispatchers Fired – Residency Requirement

Three Toledo (Ohio) police dispatchers have been fired for violating the city’s residency requirement, according to chief Mike Navarre during a city council committee meeting on Wednesday. The chief was speaking about staffing at the police department, including patrol officer levels. Navarre didn’t provide details about the firings, but a local newspaper contacted former dispatcher Dena Rieger, 35, who said she is a single mother, and left the city to live in surrounding Fulton County, where the school system has better opportunities for her 15 year-old daughter. Navarre also said the comm center would begin using just two radio dispatch channels instead of three, part of a larger plan to save money at the police department. Read a news story here.
