Off-Duty Dispatcher Twarts Robbery

An off-duty Berks County (Penn.) police dispatcher was confronted by an armed robber at a gas station, but was able to warn the employees, and then use a customer’s cell phone to dial 911 for help. Dale Fisher was just leaving the store when confronted, but refused the suspect’s order to walk back into the store. Instead, Fisher yelled to the employees and the suspect fled, armed with a handgun. Fisher then herded two customers into a rear storeroom for safety. A Wyomissing sergant was nearby, spotted the suspect based on Fisher’s description, and confronted him. The suspect refused to drop the weapon, and the officer shot him twice. He was arrested and taken to a hospital.
