When Fernandina Beach (Fla.) fire chief Danny Leeper retired, he left slightly before the 5 p.m. work day ended, creating a question in the mind of city manager Michael Czymbor about leadership. Turns out the shift captain was on vacation, and that meant no one was really “in charge” of the fire department. So Czymobr tried calling the comm center to contact the on-duty lieutenant. He claims no one answered the non-emergency line, so he dialed 911, sparking some criticism from Nassau County sheriff tommy Seagraves. Read more about the situation here.
