At a campaign appearance before a national sheriff’s group, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he supports allocating even more spectrum to public safety for a nationwide broadband network. McCain outlined the problems that law enforcement is facing at the annual convention of the National Sheriff’s Association in Indianapolis (Ind.), and then presented his solutions. “To meet all of these challenges, and others, you will need assistance, critical resources, and new technologies that often only the federal government can provide. And one of the most critical of these resources concerns the radio spectrum,” McCain said. He continued, “So that police, fire-fighters, and other public safety agencies can freely communicate with one another, we will build a long overdue national, interoperable public safety broadband network.” Read all of his remarks here.
