Sheriff Releases Tapes of Officer Shooting

The Pima County (Ariz.) sheriff’s office has released excerpts of logging recorders tapes made last June 1st when Tucson police officer Eric Hite was shot and killed by a suspect that was pursued across the city. The suspect was later captured after he also shot and wounded a deputy. Officers warned each other that the suspect was shooting, and had to back off enough to be safe, but that made following the suspect more difficult. At one point a dispatcher calls a colleague to provide a suspect description, then asks, “Am I talking to fast…my adrenlines going right now.” Listen to all the excerpts here, and then follow along with the interactive map (link at bottom of tape page).
