Lightning Hits Center, Fries Gear

A lightning strike at the main Pulaski County (Mo.) 911 Center damaged radio and other electronic gear that could cost up to $25,000 to replace. Lightning hit the adjacent radio tower and surged through the center’s power system at about 11:45 p.m. None of the on-duty dispatchers was injured. Repair technicians were on-scene about 3 a.m. and were able to get one of the three consoles working again by 5 a.m., officials said. The tower itself wasn’t damaged, but computer servers and other gear will have to be replaced.
