Towns May Owe Back Fees for Radio Use

An audit of the Hinds County (Miss.) 800 MHz trunked radio system has found that the town of Madison and Ridgeland police departments have been using the county radio system without the authorization of the county’s board of supervisors, and without paying the customer $10 per radio monthly fees. But the towns say they do have an agreement with the county, signed three years ago. The towns could owe the county up to $45,000 on back fees, officials said. Other agencies, such as the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Capitol Police and AMR ambulance, subscribe the radio service and pay fees, county officials noted.
