The Penobscot County (Maine) 911 system crashed on June 13th, forcing officials to re-route through the state’s Department of Public Safety dispatch center for call handling. Officials said the outage started at about 9:30 a.m. on a Friday, sending 911 calls to a busy signal until the re-route could be made. The county center handles incoming 911 calls for about 60 agencies. Technicians said they didn’t know if the current outage was related to similar problems encountered earlier this year, which may have been caused by software issues. The routing problem was fixed on Saturday, but failed again early Sunday morning, so call continued to be handled by the state center.
