FCC Issues New TRS Rules

The FCC has issued new regulations for the telecommunications relay service (TRS) that improves voice access to such services and how TRS providers reach public safety comm centers. Under the new rules, the FCC adopted a system for assigning 10-digit number to Internet-based TRS users so they can more easily reached by others, and so that calls from the user can be routed correctly and easily. TRS providers must also maintain a database of the physical location of their customers in case they call to report an emergency. [full Order not yet published]
