U.S. Capitol Is Radio Dead-Spot

A long article in the Washington Post newspaper says that the radio system serving the U.S. Capitol Police department has many dead spots that prevent communications, and that the system isn’t full integrated with other agencies with whom officers frequently work with. The newspaper calls the system a “Reagan-era police radio system” and says it often crashes, including during President Bush’s State of the Union speech. The long article also says that many other federal public safety radio networks are outdated, including the FBI. The Capitol Police operate a conventional, repeated system in the 160-170 MHz band.
