Work on a new Dane County (Wisc.) Web site has been underway for several months, but it debuted last week in the aftermath of an incident that generated criticism that a 911 call was mishandled. The new Web site explains the organization of the comm center and how its technology works. College student Brittany Zimmermann apparently dialed 911 from her cell phone on April 2nd before she was murdered. Following comm center policy, no officer was dispatched to investigate when the dispatcher heard no noises on the call. Meanwhile, police are debating whether to have the logging tape of the call examined by forensic experts, to see if there are any sounds on the 911 call that could identify the murder suspect. Also, local media have identified the dispatcher through police documents as Rita Gahagan. Check the comm center’s new Web site here.
