Family Files Lawsuit Over Mishandled Call

The family of an elderly man who died last December has said they’ll file a lawsuit against Old Saybrook (Conn.) for a dispatcher’s mishandling of a 911 call. Robert Gebo, 70, and his companion Eugene Amoroso, 62, were found dead of apparently natural causes. But an investigation revealed that Gebo had dialed 911 two days before they died, and that the dispatcher who fielded the call didn’t send an officer to investigate. Rather, he spent two minutes talking to the man about his condition. The unnamed dispatcher was later given a 10-day unpaid suspension, but he then elected to resign instead. Police officials said their policy is to respond to every 911 call, even those when the caller said it was an accident.
