The Cleveland (UK) police department has debuted a method for deaf residents to quickly obtain help from the agency by typing an text/SMS message on their cellular phones. Using technology from Mediaburst, a deaf person within the county types their message and sends it to the code 87202. That message is then received by Mediaburst and converted to an e-mail message destined for the police department communications center where dispatchers take action on it. The department, which serves over 500,000 residents, has also produced a brochure to publicize the new service–take a look here.
