Florida House Passes Training Bill

The husband and father of murder victim Denise Lee were both present when the Florida state Senate unanimously passed an unfunded, voluntary dispatcher certification bill that was named in Lee’s honor. The bill was proposed before Lee’s death, but took on more urgency after her kidnap-murder. The bill now moves to the full House for a vote. Sen. David Aronberg admitted the bill had no direct effect on localities, but also said it would send them an important message on the issue. Strangely, the state’s APCO chapter said nothing to the media about the bill’s weakness. But Richard Goff said he believed the law should have been made mandatory, and that other state’s should have the same type of law.
