A review by the Omaha (Neb.) World-Herald newspaper of the mass shooting at the Westroads Mall in that city last December show found that information didn’t flow smoothly between callers, witnesses, officers on-scene and police dispatchers. The glitches led to several points of delay, the newspaper concluded, for victims receiving EMS assistance. The suspect shot himself before officers even arrived, and his five victims likely also died quickly from rifle fire. Even so, said interim Omaha interim police chief, “If you don’t learn from what you’ve done, you’re going to make the same errors in the future.” Read about how dispatchers handled the flood of calls and tasks here.
