When a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Illinois-Indian region early Friday morning, it set off a string of 911 calls to PSAPs all over Indiana, including thousands from cellular callers. All of those calls are routed from wireless carrier to PSAP by INdigital Telecom over an IP network, making it easy to track and analyze the call information. And that’s exactly what they’ve done with the earthquake call history. For an amazing timeline and map of the cellular 911 call history, check INdigital’s Web page. The display of 1,600 calls in the first 10 minutes moves quicky at first, and then begins to display 911 calls as they occurred second-by-second (if your computer is fast enough).
