911 Caller Recounts Seeing Kidnapped Woman

The kidnap-murder of Denise Lee in Charlotte County (Fla.) continues to generate big headlines. The woman who dialed 911 to report seeing Lee in an adjacent car on the highway back in January has been interviewed by TV and newspaper reporters, explaining what made her suspicious. From the glimpse that caller Jane Kowalski had of Lee, she believed it was a child pounding on the window, but she was certain that the person was in jeopardy. Kowalski followed the vehicle during her 9-minute call to an unnamed sheriff’s dispatcher, but deputies never stopped the car. Also, Lee’s husband has filed papers indicating he intends to sue Charlotte County for their mishandling of the 911 call, saying several deputeis were close by the kidnapper’s moving car when Kowalski called 911. Read an interview with Kowalski here and here. A compliation of news material is here. Lastly, you can download (mp3) or listen to the tapes of three 911 calls: from Kowalski, from the suspect’s cousin Harold Muxlow, and Muxlow’s wife.
