NYPD Building Satellite Network

The New York City Police is in the final installation phase of a project to connect every police precinct house and supervisor with satellite communications, in case the city’s other communications systems are disabled by a storm with 25-foot waves and 120-mph winds. The network includes 2-foot dish antennas on the roof of buildings and $1,000 satellite phones. Read how 150 phones are deployed now and another 120 are on order here.
