County Gets First ‘VIPER’ System in the Nation

The brand-new Sussex County (Del.) Emergency Operations Center went on-line Wednesday, and includes the first implementation of Verizon’s VIPER telephone system in the nation. The $13 million center uses IP technology to allow transmission of text, photos or even video to the dispatchers, although that feature hasn’t yet been turned on. The 18,000 s.f. will also be able to handle the increasing workload of the dispatchers–911 calls are up 28% over the past five years. Read more about the new center here.
