UK May Require 999 Link for MySpace

A British government report on Internet safety for children will recommend that social networking sites provide a link within ads for emergency services, so children who feel they’re in jeopardy can report it. According to news accounts, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will release a 73-page report on Friday outlining the recommendations. The report comes after a government survey found that more than a quarter of 8 to 11-year-olds claimed to have a profile page on a social networking site, even though regulations limit their membership in such sites. There are no details about where emergency links would lead, or how agencies would respond.
