New Zealand-based Tait Radio Communications has received approval from the U.S. General Services Administration to become an approved contractor, potentially allowing the company to expand its sales to thousands of government agencies. The GSA awards large-scale, long-term contracts to companies, which then allows government agencies to purchase products from those contracts at favorable prices and conditions. Privately-owned Tait markets both analog and P25-compliant radio systems worldwide, and its U.S. operation is headquartered in Houston (Tex.). They have several public safety customers in the United States, including New York City for fire radio base stations. However, it has few U.S. customers for its mobile and portable radios.
