Dispatchers To Honor Fallen Colleague

The dispatchers at the Portage (Ind.) police department comm center will bestow their highest honor on fallen colleague Tracy Hall during this year’s National Police Week observance–they will dedicate their comm center for Hall, who died in a collision with a drunk driver in 2003. Her death had an immediate impact, but a long story in the Gary Post-Tribune newspaper outlines how the drunk driver, James Kelley, had a 0.275 % blood alcohol level, and prior DUI convictions. He was sentenced to the maximum term of 10 years, but will serve less than one-half that, and was recently reassigned to a community outreach center for the remaining five months of his sentence. Read about the anguish and sadness the family is feeling here.
