Dispatcher Arrested, Drug Links

Police have arrested a Berwyn (Ill.) police dispatcher on one count of official misconduct and one count of bribery, all related to allegations that he sold information about police operations to local drug dealers. John Flynn, 29, was a 3-year veteran of the police comm center. He was arrested outside the police station after selling criminal history records to an undercover officer, and is being held on $150,000 bail. Police chief William Kushner said Flynn had confessed to providing a full range of information: providing information to criminals about the West Suburban Gang Task Force, the whereabouts of police units and their operations, if persons had warrants, and vehicle registration information. Several dispatchers have been arrested for drug use and possession over the years, including a Bexar County (Tex.) dispatcher who also provided law enforcement information to drug criminals [story list].
