Shelby County (Ala.) has issued an RFP for a Next Generation 9-1-1 system based on IP technology, outlining a wish-list of features for the new system that will serve the county. The RFP notes that the new system will be installed at just one of the two primary PSAPs initially, and should connect to about 40 wired and several wireless carriers, along with VoIP providers.
