Maps are a critical resources for public safety dispatchers, allowing them to see exactly where incidents are located and to pre-visualize a response. Among those resources is Google Maps and Google Earth, which for the past couple of years has offered 3D mapping/rendering of buildings for major metro areas. Now Google is expanding its mapping of buildings to local areas. They have issued an invitation to local governments to submit data on its buildings, and Google will translate that into their mapping products. Even small or rural towns are free to upload their building data, Google says. Surf here for more information.
