Dispatch System Glitches Revealed

A long article in the Dallas Morning News reveals a long list of problems in the city’s new $6 million public safety dispatching system, including wrong incident addresses, incorrect criminal history information, and delayed handling of warrant information. The new system was installed in August, 2007. Current problems apparently stem from software that links the new TriTech CAD system to old hardware, including mobile laptops and fire station alerting systems. Firefighters say they’ve missed some incidents after the computer sent them a dispatch, but the alerting system didn’t sound at the station. Assignments to police officers are very slow to arrive at the mobile laptops, and running stolen or wanted checks on vehicles and persons can take make minutes.
