$20M For Radio System, Cities Bail Out

San Mateo County (N. Calif.) built a $20 million digital trunked radio system five years ago for public safety, but has been unable to convince 22 agencies in the county to join the system. In fact, Redwood City initially spent $1 million to begin using the system, but has now bailed out because of distortion on the system, poor response time for transmitting and poor in-building coverage. That left only the sheriff’s department on the system, and even they have complaints about the radio system’s performance. Watch a TV report on the situation here.
