The Heartland (Iowa) chapter of the American Red Cross will honor several persons as heroes, including Polk County 911 dispatcher Jamie Xayavong, who fielded a 911 call with a voice she could barely understand. The voice was actually Altoona fire chief Jeerry Whetstone, who had suffered a stroke, and was only able to dial 911. Xayavong kept Whetstone on the phone, and was finally able to locate him and send help. Whetstone has made a full recovery. Watch a video about the award here.
