Response Time Study Finds Delays

A massive, 8-month long investigation by The Salt Lake Tribune newspaper has found that West Valley City residents wait an average of 11 minutes and 45 seconds for a response to any incident, twice as long as any other city in the region. The analysis included a review of thousands of incidents and response times obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request in April 2007. Interestingly, the newspaper-derived response times didn’t always correspond to data reported by the police departments themselves, raising questions about accuracy. Read the story here. Also study the response time graphic (pdf) here, and ask if it’s better to have equal response times to all calls, or to have widely-varying response times based on an incident’s priority?
