Michigan 911 Surcharge Changes

Residents of Michigan are pondering the changes the legislature approved last December, and that will change 911 surcharge rates by July 1st. The legislation allows counties to impose surcharges on anything that connects to the 911 system, namely cellular phones, and regulates how much of an annual increase counties can impose. As a result, the wired surcharges will go down in most counties, but the wireless fees will increase. Read more about the surcharge situation here, and download (pdf) a copy of the new 911 surcharge law here.
