Report Rips Sheriff’s Comm Center

A 350-page internal investigative report on the kidnapping of 21 year-old woman last week documents a series of circumstances that kept a sighting of the woman from being broadcast. A shift change, two radio channels, no CAD entry and several dispatcher decisions meant that a witness’ 911 call was never radioed to deputies searching for the woman and a suspect. Two dispatchers were suspended without pay over the handling of the witness’ 911 call. Dispatcher Millie Stepp took a 911 call from the witness who saw Lee struggling in a car next to her. Stepp knew of the missing woman and a vehicle description, but failed to insure the information was radioed to deputies, the report says.
