A McHenry County (Ill.) judge has just dismissed a lawsuit brought against the county by the family of a man who crashed his motorcycle off a rural road in July 2006 and lay in a field without help, despite dialing 911 for help. The county didn’t have Phase II at the time, and Kurt Regnier couldn’t provide his location. A passerby discovered Kurt Regnier dead several hours later, and an autopsy found that Regnier was legally drunk. The family alleged the county had collected $2 million in 911 surcharges, but had not yet implemented wireless location services. The county had earlier submitted a motion to dismiss, and today the judge agreed the lawsuit wasn’t sufficient to proceed.
