The Washington State Patrol has a message for motorists–stop dialing 911 unless it’s an emergency. The agency issued a press release that asked “for your help in reducing non-emergency calls to our emergency dispatch centers.” Many 911 calls are for traffic conditions, the Patrol noted, which the state Department of Transportation provides. They pointed to the 5-1-1 number as a source of highway information, along with overhead signs and AM radio stations. Download (pdf) the Patrol’s press release here.
